Top Lodging Gem #10 – Bird Blind, Gibbon, Nebraska

July 13, 2015

Top Lodging Gem #10 – Bird Blind at the Iain Nicholson Audubon Center at the Rowe Sanctuary, Gibbon, Nebraska

Some people would never imagine that sleeping in a bird blind in the middle of winter would make the Top Lodging Gems list, but this isn’t your ordinary list!

Falling asleep to the sound of 10,000 Sandhill Cranes is, simply put, one of the most Amazing experiences of a lifetime! The unique sound of the Sandhill Cranes will lull you to sleep.

Below is a photo at twilight of the Sandhill Cranes flying in to sleep along the shores of the Platte River for the night.

Be sure to plan ahead and bring a sleeping bag rated for -10°F to +15°F plus plenty of “hotties” to keep you warm, or that special someone to snuggle. Since the Sandhill Crane migration north begins right around March 14, this “lodge” makes for a great spring break visit.

Be sure to read my “Crane-a-rama” blog with photos!

Visit Alaska in mid-January? Why not?

I'll be sharing photos from my latest trip.

Fun fact: While on my trip to Alaska mid-January, the sunrise was at 10:30am and the sunset was at 3:30pm. Makes for a very short day!
